July 20, 2016As a caring parent you want the best for your child so choosing the best After Care Program for your child can be extremely overwhelming. With so many different options, how do you even begin to make the right choice?
Here are some helpful guidelines to consider:
Is it a safe and clean environment? What does the facility look like? Visit or tour places you’re interested in and see the environment firsthand.
Do they have a professional and qualified staff? You put your trust in these programs to take care of your child. Look for programs with well trained and certified staff members. How do these staff members interact with children?
Will there be homework assistance? Find a program with a low student/teacher ratio. More individualized attention will help support and guide your child. Does the program have resources readily available for online assignments, projects, research, etc.
Does the program offer any additional activities for continued learning? Programs that offer additional educational and enrichment activities help foster a love for learning. Find a program that offers a comprehensive and fun set of activities!
Does it fit my schedule and budget? Child care and after school care can be costly. Make sure you are getting quality care for the price you are paying. Some programs only offer pick up times that won’t fit your busy schedule. Look for a program that offers flexi-schedules and varied sessions allow you to best accommodate to your needs.
The After Care Alliance, a group that researches and advocates for after school care, states that students enrolled in high- quality after school programs have better attendance, behave better and score higher on tests. Taking the time to research and consider your options will hopefully have positive results for your child and give you peace of mind.
