Dance

Have you ever noticed that children love to dance?  Creativity and self-expression are vital to your child’s well-being, and dancing is a fun way to get your child to be active.

Dancing is the perfect complement to gymnastics. Even though the practices are different, they both share similar characteristics and benefits. Ballet provides the perfect foundation for the sport of gymnastics.

Our dance program also allows students the opportunity to participate in our Gravity Showcases.  The children get a chance to perform in front of an audience, build their self-esteem, and show off their hard work.  Our next showcase is scheduled for May 19th. Gravity Dance Class Descriptions

In class, children will learn basic positions and vocabulary, explore free movement and practice creativity, as well as work on concepts such as turning, leaping, and jumping.
Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms and will maximize both technique and longevity in a career of dance. It provides the grace, poise, and technique needed to be proficient in all other areas of dance. Ballet classes will help dancers with posture, flexibility, fitness, balance, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
Ages 4 & 5 45 minute class Dancers will perform various stretches, utilizing props such as balls, bands, towels, and books to increase flexibility and an understanding of how their muscles coordinate to help them dance. They will spend time at the ballet barre and in the center of the room learning the positions of the arms and feet, as well as, learning basic ballet steps. Dancers will also be taught to travel from one corner of the room to the next by way of basic turns, jumps, and leaps. Dancers will act out various stories like in Creative Movement classes and will learn more pantomime. Dancers will also learn to count music and dance on the correct musical counts. By the end of the season, they will know the names of several ballet steps and positions and will maintain proper ballet etiquette in class.
Ages: 5 & 6 45 minute class Level I dancers will begin class with floor stretches specific to developing strength in their feet. Dancers will then go to the ballet barre and learn basic steps and positions, which will be combined to create simple combinations. They will be taught about maintaining correct posture, which in ballet, involves everything from the feet up through the top of the head. After leaving the barre, dancers will continue stretching, working the hamstrings, calves, quadriceps, and back muscles. They will learn the names of the steps and what they mean in the French language. Dancers will attempt new jumps and execute them with more repetition. They will begin learning waltz and character steps, as well as, more complicated turns. Dancers will have an opportunity to use pantomime and their ballet steps to act out different classical ballet stories. Class time will also be spent learning basic floor barre skills.
Ages 7 & older 55 minute class Dancers will begin class with stretches in the center specific to strengthening the feet. They will then go to the ballet barre to work on basic technique, as well as, learn more detailed combinations, involving port de bras (use of upper body, head, and arms). Dancers will be encouraged to count the music and name the steps. They will begin learning about turnout and correct body placement. They will expand their repertoire of jumps in simple form at the barre. Center work will consist of combining three or more steps and dancers will work to improve their turns through spotting and proper use of the arms. Corner work will combine two or more steps which travel across the floor.
Ages: 5-12 55 minute class Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.
