May 23, 2015Temperatures are rising in South Florida which means afternoons by the pool is a must to keep cool! Play it safe and don’t be a floating tomato this summer!
Best way to prevent this, you ask? Apply sunscreen! Because children will be exposed to UV radiation their whole lives, it is important to instill sun safety practices at an early age.
Here are helpful tips to look back on when applying sunscreen:
For best results, apply sunscreen approximately 30 minutes before being under the sun so your skin can properly absorb it and be less likely to wash off.
Sunscreen should be applied, then reapplied, liberally over exposed skin. Don’t forget to lather on lips, ears, and back of neck. Bald spots too!
Shake well before use to mix particles that might settle in the container. Consider using spray-on or roll-on stick sunscreen.
Be aware of the expiration date due to ingredients that may degrade over time.
Overexposure to the sun causes sunburn, premature aging of the skin, wrinkling, and skin cancer. Don’t be fooled by the cloudy sky, UV reflection from water and sand (even snow) increases exposure to harmful rays. Don’t skimp on sunscreen!
